Yearling (Marky Smith, 2000) is a captivating SDB iris that commands attention with its painterly blend of color and sculptural form. Early-blooming and compact at 11" (28 cm), this remarkable variety features luminous yellow standards (RHS 159A) with midribs softly infused with pink, while the falls showcase a smoky gold edge melting into a rich, smoked peach center (near 173D). The beards transition from cream to vibrant orange and tangerine in the throat, all set off by heavily ruffled petals for a dramatic, gallery-worthy effect. Bred from Tweety Bird X Flaming Rhythm, Yearling is a medal-worthy addition to any garden, honored with an AIS Honorable Mention in 2002. No noted rebloom or fragrance.
