Wintry Sky

Wintry Sky (Keith Keppel, 2002) is a tall bearded iris reaching 36" (91 cm) and blooming in the early midseason. This award-winning variety features standards in steeplechase blue, shading to a lighter blue at the edges, with a midrib subtly flushed in foxglove. The style arms are a delicate light blue, while the falls display a blue-white hue with foxglove shading in the throat beside the beard. Beards are cream at the end, transitioning to yellow in the throat with a blue base. The blooms are heavily ruffled, adding texture and elegance to the garden. Wintry Sky is the result of a cross between Crowned Heads and a selected seedling, and has received multiple honors, including the Wister Medal in 2010. Available at Amethyst Creek Farm.
