Tropical Fruit

Tropical Fruit (Paul Black, 1988) is a gallery-worthy Tall Bearded iris that radiates with painterly elegance and refined color harmony. Reaching 36" (91 cm) and blooming late in the season, this cultivar features old rose standards softly fading at the edges, buff orange styles, and luminous falls that transition from pale butter to a rich old rose, all finished with a vivid orange beard. Its slight sweet fragrance adds a subtle sensory layer. With a pedigree from ‘Robusto’ and a lineage including ‘Old Flame’ and ‘Instant Charm’, Tropical Fruit is a collector-grade iris recognized with a High Commendation in 1988 and an Honorable Mention in 1991. This memorable, color-forward bloom is a true centerpiece for any discerning garden. No rebloom reported. Attributes: Guardian Garden, Historic, Rebloomer Awards: High Commendation, Honorable Mention Guardian Garden (GG) This cultivar is a Guardian Garden Iris. Guardian Garden irises are endangered cultivars preserved through long-term stewardship rather than routine sale. Many of these varieties have been lost to time through attrition, discontinued propagation, or the disappearance of original growers, leaving only a few known living examples in cultivation. When a Guardian Garden variety is offered, it reflects that a sustainable stock level has finally been reached within our collection; availability remains intentionally limited to protect the cultivar’s future. We encourage collectors who value historic preservation to support the continued safeguarding of rare and endangered irises by joining the Historic Iris Preservation Society.
