Spiked

Spiked (Michael Sutton, 2007) is a remarkable intermediate bearded iris that commands attention with its bold, graphic presence and dynamic color play. This reblooming variety stands 22" (56 cm) tall and delivers early midseason blooms, with additional rebloom reported in California (USDA Zone 8). The standards feature a white ground dramatically washed in saturated violet (RHS 86A), complemented by light red-violet style arms with a touch of yellow at the base. Falls showcase a crisp white ground edged in vivid violet plicata, with irregular violet lines radiating from striking lavender blue beards. Unique spiked appendages on the base of the standards and shoulders of the falls add a sculptural, conversation-starting flair. Bred from ‘Ruby Eruption’ x ‘Momentous Occasion’, Spiked is a collector-grade, pedigree-worthy iris that brings a showpiece quality to any garden. Hybridized by Michael Sutton and introduced in 2007.
