Sea of Darkness

Sea of Darkness (Richard Tasco, 2020) is a breathtaking Tall Bearded iris that delivers a gallery-worthy impact in any garden. Towering at 34" (86 cm) and blooming in the late midseason, this ruffled masterpiece features plush, velvety falls saturated in midnight purple with a blackened sheen and a subtly lighter, sculpted edge. The standards glow in wisteria blue (RHS 92C), delicately traced with a chartreuse-white wire edge for a luminous, painterly contrast. White-based beards tipped in bronze-tangerine add a flash of unexpected color, while medium purple-based foliage completes the ensemble. With its dramatic color play, couture-level ruffling, and prestigious AIS Honorable Mention (2023), Sea of Darkness is a collector-grade showpiece—an extraordinary testament to Richard Tasco’s hybridizing artistry.
