Red Hawk

Red Hawk (Schreiner, 1995) is a remarkable Tall Bearded iris that delivers a bold, unforgettable presence in the garden. This late-blooming, 36" (91 cm) cultivar showcases deeply saturated, velvety red petals (RHS 60A) with heavily ruffled edges, creating a dramatic, sculptural silhouette. The standards are accented by a luminous yellow midrib at the base, while the beards ignite with a fiery blend of red and yellow in the throat, lending a painterly, high-impact effect. Red Hawk is further distinguished by its pronounced sweet fragrance, making it a sensory delight. Bred from the exceptional pairing of 'Play With Fire' and 'Garnet Velvet,' it earned an Honorable Mention in 1997, underscoring its pedigree and garden performance. Notably, Red Hawk is a rebloomer, with rebloom reported in Montana zone 4b field conditions, offering the promise of encore blooms in suitable climates. A true garden showpiece, Red Hawk is ideal for those seeking a vivid, memorable centerpiece with both visual and aromatic appeal.
