My Old Friend

My Old Friend (Ben Hager, by Cooleys Gardens, 2002) is a remarkable tall bearded iris that commands attention with its painterly blend of color and refined form. Reaching 38" (97 cm) and blooming midseason, this cultivar features warm buff yellow standards infused with a hint of lavender along the midrib, complemented by buff yellow style arms. The falls are a vivid violet lavender, edged with a soft buff rim and highlighted by a lighter lavender halo around the beard. The beards themselves are a dynamic mix of lavender violet at the end, transitioning to yellow-orange and deepening to orange in the throat. With its gallery-worthy coloration and commanding garden presence, My Old Friend is a collector-grade addition bred from Mother Earth x Melba Hamblen. A true field-stopper for any iris enthusiast.
