Miogem

Miogem (William McKee, 1945) is a remarkable Tall Bearded iris that embodies midcentury sophistication and painterly allure. This midseason standout, bred from ‘Miobelle’ and a select seedling crossed with ‘Ming Yellow’, dazzles with its rich, saturated rose-violet standards and glowing, sunset-washed falls, all punctuated by a bold golden beard. Awarded Highly Commended in 1945 and Honorable Mention in 1947, Miogem is a collector-grade iris with a heritage pedigree and a gallery-worthy color palette. While rebloom has not been officially recorded, it is possibly a carrier, making it a fascinating choice for those who appreciate both history and horticultural intrigue. Miogem’s vivid presence and vintage charm make it a memorable centerpiece for any garden. Available at Amethyst Creek Farm. Guardian Garden irises are endangered cultivars preserved through long-term stewardship rather than routine sale. Many of these varieties have been lost to time through attrition, discontinued propagation, or the disappearance of original growers, leaving only a few known living examples in cultivation. When a Guardian Garden variety is offered, it reflects that a sustainable stock level has finally been reached within our collection; availability remains intentionally limited to protect the cultivar’s future. We encourage collectors who value historic preservation to support the continued safeguarding of rare and endangered irises by joining the Historic Iris Preservation Society.
