Minnesota Mixed-Up Kid
$12.00
Minnesota Mixed-Up Kid (Jack Worel, 2003) is a remarkable broken color novelty iris, celebrated for its painterly, high-contrast blooms. Early to midseason, this 25" (64 cm) bearded iris unfurls light cream standards and falls, dramatically splashed and speckled with irregular purple markings. Vivid yellow radiates from the base of the standards, extending along the margins and echoed on the falls, where the yellow is even more pronounced. The bold yellow beards deepen slightly in the throat, adding further dimension. With a slight sweet fragrance and a memorable, graphic pattern, Minnesota Mixed-Up Kid is a conversation-starting, exhibition-grade addition to any garden. Parentage and origin unknown; distributed since circa 1970, often as "Mixed Up Kid." Available at Amethyst Creek Farm. Attributes: Fragrant, Guardian Garden, Novelty Guardian Garden (GG) This cultivar is a Guardian Garden Iris. Guardian Garden irises are endangered cultivars preserved through long-term stewardship rather than routine sale. Many of these varieties have been lost to time through attrition, discontinued propagation, or the disappearance of original growers, leaving only a few known living examples in cultivation. When a Guardian Garden variety is offered, it reflects that a sustainable stock level has finally been reached within our collection; availability remains intentionally limited to protect the cultivar’s future. We encourage collectors who value historic preservation to support the continued safeguarding of rare and endangered irises by joining the Historic Iris Preservation Society.
