Midnight Velvet

Midnight Velvet (Thomas Johnson, 2014) is a tall bearded iris reaching 32" (81 cm) and blooming early in the season. This award-winning variety features deep purple plicata standards over a crisp white ground, complemented by matching deep purple style arms. The falls display a dramatic deep purple bar across the hafts and a wide, velvety deep purple-black plicata band on a white background, accented by a subtle purple center stripe. The beards are purple with orange-tipped hairs, and the blooms offer a slight fragrance. Bred from notable parentage, Midnight Velvet has received multiple honors, including an Honorable Mention (2016), Award of Merit (2019), and 3rd Prize ex-aequo at Franciris® 2017.
