Lilli-Var

Lilli-Var (Walter Welch, R. 1959) is a charming Standard Dwarf Bearded iris reaching 12" (30 cm) in height and blooming late in the season. This variety features standards in a warm tannish yellow to amber, complemented by brownish red falls with an amber border and a tan beard. Lilli-Var is classified as YO5R for color and is a result of a unique lineage ((TB pink x 'Carpathia') x unknown) X sister seedling. Introduced by Welch in 1960 and awarded Honorable Mention in 1961. Guardian Garden irises are endangered cultivars preserved through long-term stewardship rather than routine sale. Many of these varieties have been lost to time through attrition, discontinued propagation, or the disappearance of original growers, leaving only a few known living examples in cultivation. When a Guardian Garden variety is offered, it reflects that a sustainable stock level has finally been reached within our collection; availability remains intentionally limited to protect the cultivar’s future.
