Impersonator

Impersonator (Sanford Babson, 1974) is a truly singular Tall Bearded iris, celebrated for its extraordinary flat form and graphic silhouette. Reaching an impressive 38" (97 cm) in midseason, this novelty cultivar is instantly recognizable for its absence of standards, creating a bold, sculptural profile. The falls are saturated in a rich blue-violet, accented by a lighter central area and finished with a crisp white beard—delivering a vivid, high-contrast effect that is both painterly and modern. Bred from 'Tambourine' x 'Shipshape' and introduced by Melrose Gardens in 1975, Impersonator earned an Honorable Mention in 1977, underscoring its pedigree-worthy appeal. A true conversation piece and collector-grade addition, Impersonator brings dramatic flair and unforgettable presence to any garden. Available at Amethyst Creek Farm.
