I. Pallida (Jean Baptiste Lamarck, 1789) is a classic tall bearded iris from southeastern Europe, reaching heights of 12–72" (30–200 cm) and blooming midseason. This variety features medium blue self blooms, with both standards and falls typically matching in color, ranging from deep blue-purple to light lavender-blue shades. Notably, I. Pallida is distinguished by its wholly dry, silvery or brown, papery bracts that protect the flower buds at bloom time. The beard is white with yellow to orange highlights, adding a touch of warmth to the cool-toned petals. Some forms of this species were among the first to introduce "pink" tones to tall bearded irises. I. Pallida is available from Amethyst Creek Farm. Attributes: Historic
