‘Foreign Legion’ (Keith Keppel, 2000) is a commanding tall bearded iris that brings a bold, dramatic presence to the garden. Reaching 39" (99 cm) and blooming midseason to late, this cultivar is a true garden showpiece. Its chamois standards are artfully blended with greyed mauve at the center, while the falls are saturated in a deep, blackish cyclamen purple to purplish black, accented by a touch of white reticulation near the vivid mikado orange beards. The style arms glow with corn yellow and a lavender blue midrib, adding painterly contrast. ‘Foreign Legion’ is lightly sweetly fragrant and boasts a pedigree of award-winning parentage, earning an Honorable Mention in 2003.
