Force Field

Force Field (Marky Smith, 2009) is a remarkable SDB iris that commands attention with its bold, graphic color contrast and intricate patterning. This early-blooming, 11” (28 cm) garden showpiece features crisp white standards dramatically rimmed and dotted with blackened fluorite-purple (RHS 83A), while mauve style arms and crests add a painterly touch. The falls are round and white, encircled by vivid purple rims and shoulders, and are completely overlaid with flaring, dark purple stitching—densely concentrated at the shoulders for a dynamic, high-contrast effect. Beards glow drab yellow-orange in the throat, transitioning to violet-tipped white at the ends. Lightly ruffled and striped, Force Field is further distinguished by its pronounced spicy fragrance. Honored with an AIS Honorable Mention in 2013, this cultivar is a true collector-grade addition, perfect for those seeking a conversation-starting, exhibition-ready iris with pedigree and presence.
