‘Football Hero’ (Lynda Miller, R. 2014) is a tall bearded iris reaching 36" (91 cm), introduced in 2015 by Salmon Creek. This award-winning variety features butter yellow standards and style arms, accented with violet, and rich plum-purple falls edged in pale smoky orchid. The gold beards and a slight musky fragrance add further appeal. Blooming in midseason, ‘Football Hero’ is the result of a cross between Hoosier Dome and Saturn. Recognized with multiple honors, including the Presidents Cup (2015), Honorable Mention (2017), Award of Merit (2019), John C. Wister Medal (2021), and the prestigious American Dykes Medal (2022).
