Fiction

Fiction (Bryce Williamson, 1978) is a tall bearded iris introduced by Pacific Coast Hybridizers in 1981. This midseason bloomer reaches 35" (90 cm) and features elegant cream-yellow standards with a subtle flush of pale violet at the base of the midrib. The falls are crisp white, accented by a wide plicata edge of light rose-lavender and shoulders sanded in a deeper rose-lavender hue. A light lemon beard adds a fresh touch to the refined color palette. Bred from Montage X Smoke Rings, Fiction has received notable recognition, including a High Commendation (1980, under seedling number), Honorable Mention (1983), and Favorite Guest (1984). Guardian Garden irises are endangered cultivars preserved through long-term stewardship rather than routine sale. Many of these varieties have been lost to time through attrition, discontinued propagation, or the disappearance of original growers, leaving only a few known living examples in cultivation. When a Guardian Garden variety is offered, it reflects that a sustainable stock level has finally been reached within our collection; availability remains intentionally limited to protect the cultivar’s future.
