Fabian (John Salter, before 1868) is a historic diploid iris featuring smoky purple tones. The standards are a lighter, very smoky shade, while the falls are notably darker, complemented by a yellow beard. This variety, listed as obsolete in the 1939 Checklist, is a rare find and was discovered growing in the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens.
