Drambuie (Anthony and Dorothy Willott, 1986) is a charming Standard Dwarf Bearded iris reaching 10.5" (27 cm) in height, blooming early to midseason. Its standards are a light brown, subtly flushed with violet at the base, while the falls are light brown with a golden wash and deeper hafts, complemented by a vivid dark yellow-orange beard. Drambuie is a result of a complex lineage, including Blueberry Muffins, Nylon Loveliness, Dark Fairy, Roberts seedling 65R9, Gingerbread Man, and Sixpence. Recognized for its unique coloration and garden performance, it received a High Commendation in 1984 and an Honorable Mention in 1991. Available at Amethyst Creek Farm. Attributes: Guardian Garden, Historic Awards: High Commendation, Honorable Mention Guardian Garden (GG) This cultivar is a Guardian Garden Iris. Guardian Garden irises are endangered cultivars preserved through long-term stewardship rather than routine sale. Many of these varieties have been lost to time through attrition, discontinued propagation, or the disappearance of original growers, leaving only a few known living examples in cultivation. When a Guardian Garden variety is offered, it reflects that a sustainable stock level has finally been reached within our collection; availability remains intentionally limited to protect the cultivar’s future. We encourage collectors who value historic preservation to support the continued safeguarding of rare and endangered irises by joining the Historic Iris Preservation Society.
