‘Ding-A-Ling’ (Paul Black, 2022) is a remarkable intermediate bearded iris that commands attention with its bold, painterly patterning and dynamic color contrasts. Reaching 25" (63 cm) and blooming midseason to late, this cultivar features standards with a crisp white ground, dramatically edged by a wide mid blue-magenta plicata band and accented by random sanding and a central stripe. The style arms echo the mid-dark blue-magenta tones, while the falls showcase a luminous white ground, encircled by a narrow, dark blue-magenta plicata band and lively mid blue-magenta dotting. Black magenta hafts and a dart below the beard add graphic intensity, and the beard itself is a unique blend of root beer-based hairs tipped in light mid violet. ‘Ding-A-Ling’ is further distinguished by its pronounced spicy fragrance, making it a captivating, garden-showpiece selection for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
