Boy Genius (Joseph Ghio, 2011) is a distinguished tall bearded iris reaching 25" (64 cm), blooming very early to early in the season. This award-winning variety features gold standards with a subtle black tint at the midrib, while the falls are a deep, nearly solid mahogany-black, accented by gold dotting around the gold beards and a fine gold hairline edge. Boy Genius is recognized for its dramatic color contrast and refined form, earning the Ben Hager Cup (2013), Honorable Mention (2014), Award of Merit (2018), and the prestigious Knowlton Medal (2022).
