Blackcurrant

Blackcurrant (Marky Smith, 1998) is a captivating intermediate bearded iris that commands attention with its extraordinary color play and refined form. Reaching 25" (64 cm) in height, this early midseason bloomer features plum purple standards edged in primrose yellow, luminous yellow style arms, and falls that deepen to a redder hue with a primrose wire rim and blue-violet accents near the center. The beards transition from cream to yellow and finish in a bold orange throat, all set off by ruffled petals and a slight sweet fragrance. With its painterly, high-contrast palette and pedigree from Fancy Woman x Genstar, Blackcurrant is a medal-worthy, exhibition-grade addition to any garden.
