Black Gamecock (Frank Chowning, 1978) is a celebrated Louisiana iris known for its dramatic blue-black (RHS 103A) self blooms, each accented by a narrow gold line signal. This robust seedling (FC77-12) reaches 24" (61 cm) and flowers in the late season. With unknown parentage, Black Gamecock has earned multiple accolades, including the Honorable Mention (1982), Award of Merit (1986), and the prestigious DeBaillon Medal (1989).
