Above The Fray

Above The Fray (Hugh Stout, 2020) is a tall bearded iris reaching 36" (91 cm) and blooming in the early midseason. This variety features standards in veronica violet, deepening toward the edges, with lavender style arms. The falls are a rich, deep dark purple, lightening near the beard and showcasing prominent dark purple and white veining radiating from the hafts—veining may extend around the beard or through the heart of the petal. A distinct ¼" violet edge frames the falls. The beards are based in lavender with bronze-tipped ends. Above The Fray is notable for its heavy ruffling and pronounced sweet fragrance. Bred from Mulberry Magic and a complex seedling lineage, it was introduced by Stout Gardens in 2020 and received an Honorable Mention in 2023. Available at Amethyst Creek Farm.
