🌸 Major Iris Societies

American Iris Society (AIS)

The American Iris Society is the internationally recognized authority for iris classification, registration, and preservation. Founded in 1920, AIS maintains the official registry for all named iris cultivars and establishes the standards used to classify and evaluate irises worldwide.

Beyond registration, AIS supports research, education, and the conservation of iris species and historic varieties. Through its network of affiliated societies and dedicated members, it promotes the cultivation, hybridization, and appreciation of irises across all classes—serving as the cornerstone organization for iris enthusiasts, collectors, and hybridizers alike.
