Reblooming Iris Care
& Fertilizing Strategy
Help Your Rebloomers Perform at Their Best—Twice!
Reblooming irises are special varieties that can bloom not just in spring, but again in late summer to fall, especially in warmer zones. To support this repeat performance, they need a bit of extra attention and the right seasonal care.
💧 Watering Needs
Rebloomers need consistent moisture (but not soggy / wet conditions)—especially through summer—to support the formation of a second bloom cycle.
-
Water deeply every 5–7 days during dry periods.
-
Avoid letting the soil completely dry out during July–September.
-
Ensure excellent drainage to prevent rot while keeping the roots hydrated.
🧹 Ongoing Care Tips
-
Deadhead promptly to prevent energy from going to seed production.
-
Water consistently from June through August to support new bloom stalk development.
-
Do not cut foliage in summer—leave healthy leaves to support rebloom energy.
-
Trim back foliage in fall after the final bloom cycle or after first frost.
